Pets America saves the lives of pets and the people who love them
by providing educational programs about emergency preparedness and resources for disaster response.
Through
Pet First Aid & Disaster Response workshops, Pets America teaches people how to care for their animals before, during,
and after an emergency. And, by collaborating with communities nationwide, Pets America is providing resources that help ensure
that pets can be effectively included in local emergency management plans. Recent Accomplishments:
- Surveyed more than 400 veterinary professionals to develop a new Pet First
Aid & Disaster Response curriculum and guide. Beta tested curriculum during courses for approximately 150 pet owners in
Texas. (2007)
- Established partnership with the Emergency Care and Safety Institute to offer Pet First Aid & Disaster
Response workshops nationally. (2008)
- Provided approximately 450 pet oxygen masks to fire and EMS responders in nine
states in the U.S. (2007)
- Hosted Pet First Aid Instructor Development Course for Registered Veterinary Technicians
and other experienced professionals in conjunction with the Southwest Veterinary Symposium. (2007)
- Educated more than
6,000 veterinarians, emergency managers, and pet owners at seven major conferences (2006
and 2007)
